Faith and Loyalty: Sonic and Rainbow Dash: Ch. 1

9:37 A.M. Green Hill Zone

“Lively, yet gentle....”

    Lively, yet gentle characterized the peaceful serenity of the picturesque paradise known simply as Green Hill Zone, South Island. With its cool blue skies and lakes, cascading waterfalls, grassy fields, and wooden log bridges with totem poles, brown checkered soil, and the occasional shuttle loops, this place was indeed called ‘home’. Home to the one and only, Fastest Thing Alive: Sonic the Hedgehog. With his blue streak speeding through the shuttle loops and grass, to the feel of the ever flowing cool breeze running through every fiber of his quills, Sonic had truly known that life as he knew it was nothing but perfect.

As Sonic was getting ready to boost even further, he felt a buzzing sensation coming from his wrist, effectively putting his early morning jog to a screeching halt. The hedgehog had touched the answer button on his wrist communicator to find a familiar voice calling him.

“Hello?” answered Sonic.

“Yo, Sonic! Long time no see!”

It was none other than Knuckles, whom he hadn’t seen since the Time Eater Crisis nearly a year ago. Knuckles immediately asked Sonic to come over to Tails’ workshop, as the latter had wanted to give a demonstration.

“Knux, haven’t seen you in a while! What’s up man? ”

“Look, I gotta keep this brief; Tails wants us to come over to his workshop right away. He said he wants to-”

“Shh, Knuckles!” cut off Tails. “Don’t tell him yet! I want it to be a surprise. Just tell Sonic to come over ASAP, I can’t wait to show him!”

“Alright, alright....” retorted Knuckles. “Geez..... j-just be ready when he comes!”

“Uh Knuckles, is everything okay in there?” asked Sonic. “You........ got cut off....”

“Oh, it was nothing, Sonic. Just get down here quickly, as I think our little fox friend’s head’s gonna explode if you don’t and besides, we wouldn’t want a giant mess to clean up now would we?.......”

“Haha.... very funny, Knuckles.” replied Tails sarcastically.

“Alright, Knuckles. I’ll be there in a jiffy! *hangs up*.”

As soon has he disconnected the call from his communicator, Sonic ran off towards Tails’ house at blazing speed, eager to see what his friend had come up with.

10:37 A.M. Ponyville

Equestria.

            Amongst its vast and colorful scenery, to a faraway purple castle overlooking the land, the nearby town Ponyville was teeming with life and harmony. Earth ponies, pegasi, and unicorns alike all relished in the bright and radiant daylight, courtesy of Celestia’s sun. From the Schoolhouse filling up with young fillies and colts eager to learn, to Mayor Mare giving a speech to everyone at town hall, or perhaps the marketplace quickly filling up with ponies ready to buy their groceries, Ponyville couldn’t be anymore livelier. As everypony in town began trotting over to places where they were needed, one intrepid pegasus lit up the sky with her vast array of colors. A daredevil at heart, Rainbow Dash flew through Equestria’s clear skies at blistering speed, not giving a care in the world as she did. From the dewdrops running through her mane, to the free flowing breeze blowing into her face, Rainbow Dash couldn’t be anymore happier.

After finishing her daily flight, Dash took a rest on a nearby hill overlooking Sweet Apple Acres, giving a sigh of relief as she leaned her back onto a tree and closed her eyes for a nap.

“Aah..... nothing like a morning flight to get the ol’ heart racing, I always say...... *yawn*”

 As her eyelids went shut, she felt a sharp poke in her side and immediately opened her eyes to find none other than Scootaloo.

“Hey, Scoots!” greeted Rainbow. “Whatcha doin’ here?”

“*pant* I came.... *pant*  to see..... you-.”

“Whoa take it easy there, squirt. You’ll pop a blood vessel. Heh...”

“*deep breath* Erm, sorry, heh heh....” replied Scootaloo. “What I meant to say was, I came here to see you practice, Rainbow Dash! I hope I’m not too late....”

“Uh, sorry kid.” Dash sullenly answered. “Ya just missed it, and besides, I’m bushed.”

“Oh....” frowned Scootaloo. “That’s okay, see ya ‘round I guess......”

As Scootaloo was about to ride off on her scooter, Dash couldn’t help but feel pity and convinced her to stay.

“Welllll..... I could just do a few tricks for my Number 1 Fan!”
“*gasp* Yesyesyesyesyesyesyesyesyes!”

“Alright, hang tight kid..... let’s get ready to rock!”

Rainbow Dash quickly flew up towards the sky at high speeds, not even breaking a sweat as she performed tricks consisting of loop-de-loops, high dives, and other various aerial stunts. As she made her way back to the ground and flourished a mini rainbow from her wings using moisture from the clouds, Scootaloo couldn’t contain any longer; her face looking as if she had just seen a glimpse of heaven.

“Oh. My. Gosh..... Rainbow Dash! That. Was. Totally. AWESOME!”

“Heh, yeah..... I know.....” responded Rainbow braggingly. “C’mon kid, whaddya say we relax for a bit?”

“I’D LOVE IT!.....”

9:48 A.M. Tails' House/Workshop

    After what seemed like an easy jog for Sonic, he soon found himself standing in front of his best friend’s house, arriving just in time. As Tails went outside to get some fresh air, to his surprise he found his blue friend standing right outside his doorstep.

“Hey Sonic, you made it!”

“Tails! Long time no see! So, about this thing you wanted to show me.....”

“Oh, right! Come inside, it’s almost ready.”

The two went inside and were greeted by Knuckles as he was eating some grapes.

“Hey, Knucklehead!” greeted Sonic. “What’s up?”

“Nice to see ya too, Sonic. How are things?”

“Aw, I can’t really complain..... Although I gotta tell ya, it sure is relaxing not seeing any sign of ol’ “Baldy McNosehair” for a while......”

“I’ll say....” agreed Tails. “But doesn’t that kinda worry you a bit, Sonic?”

“Huh? Why would it?”

“I mean we haven’t seen him in over a year, and he could be planning something big.”

“Yeah, or still crying himself to sleep over the fact that everything he does is a total failure and that he’ll never be able to beat me! Haha!”

“Oh well.....” shrugged Tails. “Alright, just putting on the finishing touches.... and.... Tada! It’s finished!”

“*munch* What’s finished?” questioned Knuckles.

“My new invention! I call it...... wait, Sonic, if you don’t mind, drum roll please?”

“*sigh* Fine...... Da Dadadadada Dum....”

“As I  was saying, I call it...... “The Miles Electric Dimension Hopping Portal Device!” Or, the “MEDHPD” for short....”

Tails had held up the already familiar Miles Electric device, looking nearly identical to its predecessor, but having a sleeker design, and also sporting a longer single antenna to boot.

“*pant* *pant* Didadilidadilidadilidadadadadadadada...... DAAAAAAAAA!”

“Uh, Sonic? You can stop now.....” said Knuckles.

“Huh? Oh, right..... but Tails, don’t you already have a Miles Electric device?” asked Sonic.

“Mhm! But this one’s a remodeled, updated version of the old one; which I still have but it’s currently busted, so I made this one in the meantime.”

“So “MEDHPD” huh, what exactly does it do?”

“Exactly what it says on the tin, Sonic! The MEDHPD allows to travel to other worlds different planets, distant lands, and so much more!”

“Wow, cool! So does that mean we can visit aliens and stuff? Just like that guy with the blue phone booth, or something like that?”

“Heh heh.....” chuckled Tails. “You’ve been watching waaaaay too many Sci-Fi movies and specials, Sonic.....”

“So Tails, how exactly does it work?” asked Knuckes.

“Basically, I can enter in any location on the MEDHPD’s touchscreen and it’ll beam us right to the exact location. It even saves the last visited location on its database so we can revisit it anytime we want!”

“Any location?”

“Yup! As I said before, we can go anywhere we want! And we’ll be there at just the push of a button; well in this case, a tap on the touchscreen. *taps*”

“Miles Electric Dimension Hopping Portal Device, starting up.”  A robotic sounding voice said. “Please enter location or select ‘random’ to transport a random location.”

“Wow, cool!” commended Sonic. “You’ve really outdone yourself this time, Tails! So, I’m assuming you made a list of where we’d like to go?”

“Well, not exactly but I’m pretty sure as continue to use it, we’ll get a good idea of where we want to go in the future. But since I’ve included a ‘random’ feature, I feel that we should choose this option and use it as a test run.”

“I see. Alright, Tails..... Fire it up!”

“Okay, Firing up!”

After one single tap on its touchscreen, the device selected its ‘random’ function and was ready to start searching for possible locations. It managed to find one in the span of about a minute, but something went wrong; the device started to flash and smoke, with Tails making note of its defects.

“Hmm.... that’s strange. It’s not supposed to be doing that.....”

Lightning had sparked and struck the ground near Sonic’s feet, causing him to yelp in fear.

“Aah! Tails, what’s wrong with this thing?!”

“Uh, I don’t know! Like I said, it’s never been tested before and this was supposed to be a test run! Guys, stay back; it could be unstable!.....”

“Could?! COULD?!?!” shouted Knuckles. “It IS unstable!!”

“Tails, fix it!” yelled Sonic.

“I-I’m trying to! Ugh, this thing must be jammed, controls are malfunctioning! Hold on, I’m trying to abort the search!.......”

Tails grabbed a wrench and tried everything to stop his machine from malfunctioning. After fiddling around with the controls for a bit, he managed to successfully power down the MEDHPD and it seemed to have worked......

“Almost there........ and...... whew! Okay guys, coast is clear! Managed to get it fixed.....”

“Whew, well that’s a relief.” said Sonic.

“I dunno, you guys, maybe we should check to make sure it’s really fixed.” suggested Knuckles.

As the three circled around the device to make sure it was completely shut off, a faint static could be heard from the MEDHPD and in a matter of seconds, the device exploded with Team Sonic being blasted out of its vicinity. In the wake of the explosion, a purple vortex was revealed to be emitting out of the device.

“Uh, Tails? What is that?!” inquired Sonic.

“I have no idea, Sonic. But whatever it is, it sure can’t mean anything good......”

The vortex seemed to grow bigger and more unstable as seconds progressed and in a few moments, the vortex had started to suck everything in a room like a black hole.

“Guys........ RUN FOR YOUR LIVES!!!!!” screamed Kunckles.

“Good idea!” replied Sonic and Tails in unison.

As Team Sonic tried to outrun the vortex and reach for the door, it was to no avail as it grew even more unstable and began to suck in the three of them, one by one.

“Whoa-oh-oh-oh-OH!!!” yelled Knuckles. “A LITTLE HELP, YOU GUYS?!?! AAAAHHHH!!!!!”

“Oh my gosh!” cried Tails. “It’s taken Knuckles!”

“Tails, run!” shouted Sonic.

“Uh—uh, WHOA!” screamed Tails as he was taken in as well. “S-SONIC! HELLLLLPPPP!”

“Tails, NO!”

Sonic had soon panicked and grabbed a nearby table, holding on for dear life.

“Aah! Please, somebody, anybody! HELLLLLPPP US!”

But it was too late, as Sonic had been sucked in as well. After it had completely sucked the three of them in, the portal closed and the room was empty. With their bodies feeling light as air, Team Sonic seemingly traveled through the vortex to parts unknown......
